We checked 5 places selling real Christmas trees near Abingdon, from Appleton Christmas Barn to Farmer Gow's, for dates and prices. Updated November 2026.
There are five places to buy a real Christmas tree within easy reach of Abingdon in 2026, and this guide puts them in one place with their opening dates, prices and what each one sells. Most people head for Appleton Christmas Barn, four miles north west of the town, which opens on 13 November and has sold trees from the family farm for more than 75 years. Highfield Trees at Marsh Baldon grows its own, and Farmer Gow’s near Faringdon is the nearest for Wantage and the west of the Vale. Every entry was checked against the seller’s own website on 5 November 2026.
We have not bought a tree from any of these for this guide, and nothing here is a review. Each entry says what the seller says it does, with its own prices where it publishes them, and says plainly when those prices are last year’s. Distances are as the crow flies from Abingdon town centre. Dates and stock change through the season, so check the website before a special trip.

Closest to Abingdon
1. Appleton Christmas Barn, Appleton
Appleton Christmas Barn is on a family farm on Eaton Road in Appleton, about four miles north west of Abingdon. The family says trees have been sold from the farm for more than 75 years, first from the farmhouse, and that David and Ione added the barn and a Christmas decoration shop in 2008; David is the fifth generation to farm there.
Its cut trees are Norway spruce, Nordmann fir, Fraser fir, Serbian spruce and lodgepole pine, grown in the UK by members of the British Christmas Tree Growers Association, and staff will show you “as many different individual trees as it takes”. Three reindeer, Tiny Tim, Sami and Frankincense, live at the barn and are free to see.
Prices are from the barn’s fresh cut trees page, which on 5 November still said it had sold out for 2025, so this year’s prices may differ. Its FAQ says dogs are welcome in the shop if they are clean, well behaved and on a lead, that delivery slots are limited by staff numbers, and that it takes cards including American Express, Apple Pay and cash.
The reindeer cannot be fed. The barn gives an email address, trees@appletonchristmasbarn.co.uk, rather than a phone number.

2. Highfield Trees, Marsh Baldon
Highfield Trees grows and sells its trees on the same land at Marsh Baldon, about five miles east of Abingdon off the A4074. The Elliott family started growing Christmas trees in the mid-1980s and moved to this site about ten years later; the farm began with Norway spruce and has since turned much of its land over to Nordmann fir, with smaller numbers of Noble fir and blue spruce.
It says it cuts new trees every day it is open and does not “cut the best stock first”. Alongside the premium trees there are cheaper budget trees, fresh from the field and marked with a green label, which “may have some imperfections”.
Anne Elliott makes wreaths from the farm’s own foliage.
The prices are from Highfield’s tree prices page, still headed 2025 on 5 November 2026. Norway spruce goes on sale from Saturday 5 December, and the farm asks anyone buying one early in December to take particular care that it lasts the month.
Last year the farm delivered on Tuesdays from 25 November to 16 December; it had not published 2026 delivery dates. The farm gives the what3words address ///subtitle.reaction.shall for the entrance.

Price 2025 list (2026 not yet posted): premium Nordmann 4ft £35, 6ft £60, 7ft £70, 8ft £85; premium Norway spruce 4ft £22.50, 6ft £35, 8ft £60; green-label budget trees cheaper

Last November it sold cut Nordmann fir and potted Nordmann and Norway spruce, with cut trees available to pre-order online before they arrived.
Its 2026 trees were not on its website on 5 November. One thing to know this year: the centre and its cafe close from 1pm on 24 December 2026 for a building upgrade and plan to reopen on 5 February 2027 while online sales and free local delivery carry on.

Its Christmas Tree Barn sells cut and pot-grown trees, wreaths, garlands, tree stands and firewood, and the farm shop next door sells gifts and its own Christmas meats.
The farm says trees stand un-netted so you can see them, then are netted for the journey, and a team member will carry yours to the car. Entry to the tree barn and gift shop is free, and the farm hands out taster trays of hot meat, mulled wine and chocolate coins.
Prices are from the farm’s Nordmann and Lasiocarpa page. The farm also sells day tickets for its Christmas activities, which are separate from the free tree barn and shop.

It says it has sold Christmas trees for more than 50 years, has won the British Christmas Tree Growers Association’s Best Tree competition three times and supplied the tree outside 10 Downing Street in 2011, 2013 and 2015.
It sells Nordmann fir, Norway spruce, Serbian spruce and the blue-grey Lasiocarpa fir, nearly all grown on the farm, plus pot-grown trees, and its Christmas shop opens before the trees.
The farm’s 2026 price list is dated 28 October 2026 and includes VAT. It delivers trees up to 9ft, and taller ones by arrangement, within 30 miles, which takes in Abingdon.
It says weekdays are quieter than weekends.

Not in this guide, and why
Millets Farm Centre at Frilford lists no real trees for sale on its website, and Notcutts at Nuneham Courtenay says only that real trees are “coming soon” to selected stores, without naming which. Charlton Park Garden Centre in Wantage and Millets are council drop-off points for old trees in January, but we could not find anything online about it selling them. We found no school, scout or charity tree sale announced in the Abingdon area for 2026; we will add any that are.
How we chose
We looked for places selling real trees within easy reach of Abingdon, Wantage and Faringdon, using the sellers’ own websites and the Vale of White Horse council’s Christmas tree pages, and kept only those with a website we could check. Dates, prices and policies come from those sites on 5 November 2026, and where a seller still shows last year’s prices we say so. When your tree is finished, the council’s Christmas tree collections page lists the drop-off points, including Charlton Park in Wantage and Millets at Frilford, open to all residents until early January; garden waste subscribers can put the tree out on their brown bin day.
