We checked 14 shops in Abingdon, Wantage and Faringdon, from Mostly Books to Millets Farm Shop, for opening hours and what they sell. Updated November 2026.

Abingdon, Wantage and Faringdon have 14 independent shops worth a Christmas shopping trip in 2026, and this guide puts them in one place with opening hours, addresses and what each one sells. Mostly Books and Masons on Stert Street, Abingdon Distillery on Ock Street and Millets Farm Shop at Frilford are the names most people land on. We checked every entry against the shop’s own website on 5 November 2026, or a named listing where the shop has no site.

We have not shopped at any of these for this guide, and nothing here is a review. Each entry says what the shop says it sells, in its own words where we can quote them. Most of the hours below are regular hours, not Christmas ones: only Millets had published festive times when we checked. Small shops often change their hours close to Christmas, so check before a special trip.

Dates for the Christmas shopping diary

Wednesday 11 to Friday 13 November: Millets Christmas Craft and Gift Market. Artisan stalls at Millets Farm Centre, Frilford, 10am to 3.30pm, with late shopping to 7.30pm on Wednesday 11th. Free entry.

Saturday 28 November: Abingdon Christmas Extravaganza. The Bath Street Christmas market runs from 9am, and the lights go on in the Market Place at 6pm. Our Christmas markets page has the stalls and our lights switch-on page has the timings. The same afternoon, Faringdon’s Market Place has its lights switch-on, Santa’s grotto and market stalls from 2pm to 6pm, according to Faringdon Town Council.

Friday 4 December: Wantage Dickensian Evening. Stalls at the parish church and the Vale and Downland Museum, with the Wantage lights switch-on, from 4pm.

Saturday 5 December: Christmas Craft Market, Abingdon Market Place. The Local Excellence Christmas market of makers from within 30 miles. Opening hours were not published when we checked.

Friday 18 December: the last farmers’ market before Christmas. Abingdon Market Place, 8.30am to 1.30pm.

Late night shopping. We found no town-wide late night date for Abingdon, Wantage or Faringdon when we checked.

How we chose

We started from the town council’s shopping pages, the wantage.com and Independent Oxford directories and OpenStreetMap, then kept the independent shops that sell things people buy as presents and whose details we could check on their own websites, or on a named listing where a shop has no site. Market and event dates come from the organisers’ pages, as set out on our Christmas markets page. For somewhere to eat between shops, see our Christmas dinner guide, and for days out, things to do in Abingdon, what’s on this month and the local business directory. Run a shop that should be here, or spot something that has changed? Email newsdesk@abingdononline.co.uk. Taken a good photograph of any of these places? Email it to newsdesk@abingdononline.co.uk and we will add it with your name as the credit.
